Inauguration
The Stepping stone of Museum of Justice was started in 2017 by shri justice Dipak Misra and is the brainchild of the Orissa State Legal Services Authority. But In 2023, Chief Justice Dr. S. Muralidhar of the Orissa High Court spearheaded the idea to refurbish the museum. Under his guidance, the ambitious renovation project was successfully executed. The culmination of these efforts was marked by the re-inauguration ceremony on February 25, 2023, presided over by Prof. Ganeshilal, the esteemed Governor of Odisha. The event not only symbolized the commitment to cultural preservation but also showcased the collaborative synergy between the judiciary and the state government. The museum is spread over an area of 2000 square feet and is divided into three sections. The first section of the museum is dedicated to the evolution of the Indian legal system, showcasing the various stages of development over the centuries.
The second section of the museum is devoted to the judicial system in Orissa. It contains exhibits that depict the functioning of the Orissa High Court and the subordinate courts. The section also showcases the various legal instruments used in the state, including the Orissa Revenue Code and the Orissa Municipal Act.
The third section of the museum is focused on the history of the Orissa High Court. The section contains exhibits that showcase the various stages of the court’s evolution, including its establishment in 1948 and its subsequent development over the decades. The section also features a collection of portraits of former judges of the court, including those who have gone on to become judges in the Supreme Court of India.
